Dana S.Whitney

©2013 painting by Dana

Dana S. Whitney has worn many hats prior to concentrating on her artistic endeavors. Californian by birth, and a recent transplant to Southern New Hampshire, she responds to colors, shapes and design. She is primarily self taught with invaluable help from books, lectures and mentoring from fellow artists. She works most often in oils and pastels, but seldom passes up the opportunity to try something new. Encaustics, fiber and watercolor are on the horizon.

“I’ve always been fascinated by arts, crafts, artists and craftspeople. My path took me the long way around; I was a student, a librarian, a parent, and then a psychotherapist – always an observer. Finally the urge for self expression burst forth and I began drawing, painting, and creating. Best and biggest leap of faith ever.”

Peter J. Koutrouba

Born in Brookline Massachusetts in March of 1948, Peter was raised in Norton, Massachusetts. He started drawing and painting as a child. Being one of eight children there was not enough money to purchase art supplies so he used leftover paint-by-number paints to compose pictures on paper bags after his mother went shopping. Peter cut the bags into workable pieces of paper then ironed out the creases to make the bag smooth. As he aged his family recognized the talent and began purchasing art paper and paints for birthday and Christmas gifts. In high school, he took drafting courses and had two periods of art a day. Peter graduated from Marshfield High School in 1967 and joined the Marines. He is a Vietnam and Desert Storm Veteran. During his thirty years of service he continued to paint scenes from around the world, at places where he was stationed. Peter sketches and photographs his scenes then completes his paintings in his studio. He has taught classes in the fundamentals of drawing and how to view subjects in perspective. As a self taught artist, he holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management. He has participated in numerous art shows and contests and has earned blue ribbons for his works. Today he works with a variety of mediums to include oils, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, colored pencil and charcoal. Admittedly, he favors acrylic paint on watercolor paper.

Peter has sold paintings around the globe and has a studio at the Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, Massachusetts. Peter accepts commission work and has completed customers’ “First House” paintings. He resides in Pepperell with his wife Denise (also a veteran).
